The presently known range of this species in eastern
North America extends from the Island of Newfoundland
to Florida and eastern Texas.
In nearly all the material examined, either the hymenium
was entirely immature or large parts of the hymenium
from approximately the middle of the gill (measured
radially with respect to the cap) were immature.
Hence, most of the material observed was, at the time
of drying, not at its maturity. As a consequence,
we suggest that material not be dried until it has
demonstrated the maturity of the fruiting body by the
production of a spore print.
The material of Tulloss 7-12-04-U had the shortest
values of length, Q, L, and Q of any
specimen examined although the spore width was close to
average. This is typically the case of amanitas
that are past prime sporulation. After this point
spore length (and, consequently, the value of Q) drops
faster than width—the spores become "rounder."
This is our interpretation of what happened with
Tulloss 7-12-04-U.
At the moment, this taxon is segregated solely by its
nrITS and nrLSU sequences. In eastern North
America, compare A.
flavorubens, A. rubescens var. alba,

submaculata, A.
aureosubucula,
A.

sp-amerirubescens05, A. sp-amerirubescens07,
A. ostendemihi, and

Special attention should be given to Amanita brunneolocularis
because, based on molecular studies, this may be the
correct name of the present species.
