intro The following is based on the original description of H. V. Smith (1945 ).
cap The cap is 65± mm wide, with disc Verona Brown, shading to Cinnamon Buff or paler at margin, with low broad umbo, and glutinous; its flesh is white and thin; its maring is nonstriate; and its volva is present as a colorless, unchanging slime.
gills The gills are free, cream-white, 1± mm broad, and have an edge that is very slightly undulate.  Short gills were not described.
stem The stem is about 75 × 8 mm, Cinnamon Buff, narrowing upward slightly, and glutinous; no bulb was described; and the flesh is white.  The ring is either absent from the beginning or becomes difficult to see.  The volva is present as a transparent, colorless to gray slime and is unchanging.
odor/taste Odor and taste were not described for this mushroom.
spores Spore measurements were not reported in the original description.
discussion The original material of this variety was collected in the Pacific Coastal states of the U.S., under conifers.

H. V. Smith (1945 ) wrote, "This variety is distinguished by the dull-brownish tinge on disc and stipe in both fresh and dried condition, but the colors are by no means so pronounced as in either L. glischra or L. kauffmanii."  Unfortunately, she provided no microscopic character data—simply saying that such characters were as given for the type variety.—R.
