  • intro The following is based on collections of David P. Lewis, morphological studies of RET, and genetic sequencing by Santiago Sanchez.
cap Initially, this species has a brownish red or brownish red-orange or red-orange cap with a margin that quickly becomes yellow; the margin sometimes fades to yellow-white to whitish to white.  Infrequently a patch of white, membranous volva may remain on the cap.
    gills no information available.
stem The stem appears white in photographs (possibly with faint yellow scales) and has its base attached to the volval sack on the sides of the stem—not only at the stem's very bottom.  The volva has a yellowish internal limb.
    odor/taste no information available.
spores The spores measure (7.3-) 7.6 - 10.6 (-14.1) × (5.0-) 5.3 - 6.8 (-8.5) µm and are ellipsoid to elongate (occasionally) and inamyloid.  Clamps are present at bases of basidia.
discussion At present, this taxon is known only from Jasper Co., Texas, and from Ste. Genevieve Co., Missouri, in the U.S.A.  It is morphologically similar to Amanita sp-AR01, Amanita sp-F11, and Amanita jacksonii.—R. E. Tulloss
