cap The cap of this species is deep red-brown. The volva remnants on the cap have pinkish orange tints and leave patches that become grayish over time.
stem The stem is decorated with pinkish orange fibrils that darken with maturity to dirt brown.  The volva at the stem's based is reduced to a small appressed cup.  Elsewhere on the lower stipe, the volva may be present in patches resembling those on the cap.
