The cross-section photograph of this species is quite
revealing. When the warts on the cap were
sectioned, they show a gray interior. The pieces
of volva along the stem also show a gray interior.
And the floccose pieces of what I think may have been a
gray limbus internus are also distributed along the
stem and were sectioned. The material is from Contra Costa County, California, where it was found with Coastal Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia). The present species is 4.3% genetically distant from A. obconicobasis. |
