spores	The spores of the present species measure (10.7-) 11.0 - 13.5 (-16.0) × (6.8-) 7.0 - 8.4 (-9.0) μm, are inamyloid and ellipsoid to elongate.
discussion	This species was discovered during a genetic survey of the Roosevelt herbarium. At present the species is known from Missouri and New Jersey. The material involved was originally classified in A. wellsii. The latter species has a known range in northern North America extending from Michigan to northern Québec to subarctic heath on the Island of Newfoundland and southward to Pennsylvania.—R. E. Tulloss

discussion

The present species is genetically separable from A. wellsii to which the reader should make a comparison. When the present species was first collected it was mistaken for A. wellsii.

We do not know if the species have distinct and separate ranges. At present, A. wellsii seems to have a more northerly distribution—extending, at least, from Michigan to New England and Pennsylvania to northern Quebec to subarctic heath on the Island of Newfoundland. On the other hand, collections of the present species extend from Missouri to the inner coastal plane north of Princeton, New Jersey. The range is likely to be greater. It may extend into other montane areas of the south and up the eastern coast to Long Island, New York, and Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where a number of other "southern" amanitas are known to occur.

Additional information about range and habitats of both taxa will be valuable.
