| intro |
Olive text indicates a specimen that has not been
thoroughly examined (for example, for microscopic details) and marks other places in the text
where data is missing or uncertain. The following material is based upon original research by R. E. Tulloss.
| odor/taste | Odor like "new potatoes" or like "cucumbers." Taste not recorded. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| macrochemical tests |
none recorded. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| lamella trama | bilateral, divergent; ??. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| subhymenium | pseudoparenchymatous (cellular); ??. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| basidia | ??; clamps common. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| gluten layer | On pileus as gluten pile supported by subanticlinal, filamentous undifferentiated hyphae of two forms; dominant form ca. 2.5 μm wide, ??; less frequent form ca. 5.5 μm wide, ??; clamps common. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| lamella edge tissue | fertile. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| basidiospores |
[5/1/1] 4.8 - 7.2 × 4.0 - 6.0 μm, (L 5.7 μm; W = 4.9 μm; Q = 1.09 - 1.20; Q = 1.17), ??, smooth or bearing scattered minute warts, inamyloid, subglobose to broadly ellipsoid, ??; apiculus sublateral, cylindric; contents ??; ?? in desposit. [Note: Only five spores found despite extensive search. Material immature.—RET]
| ecology | Subgregarious. Under Abies. | ||||||||||||||||||||

| discussion | The two forms of hyphae noted in the gluten layer may represent both the initially developing hyphae that gelatinize to produce the gluten and the secondarily developing hyphae which apparently hold the gluten on the pileus—the "gluten-supporting" hyphae. | ||||||||||||||||||||

Spore data sets and their composite
Each spore data set is intended to comprise a set of measurements from a single specimen made by a single observer; and explanations prepared for this site talk about specimen-observer pairs associated with each data set. Combining more data into a single data set is non-optimal because it obscures observer differences (which may be valuable for instructional purposes, for example) and may obscure instances in which a single collection inadvertently contains a mixture of taxa.
