name Limacella broadwayi
name status insufficiently known
author (Murrill) H. V. Sm.
english name "Broadway's Vanguard Limacella"
intro There is some question as to whether the present species truly belongs in the genus Limacella.  The following is based on the original description, revision of the holotype by Tulloss, and the description by H. V. Smith (1966).
cap The cap was originally described as glutinous, but drying rather quickly, with very thin flesh.
gills The gills are narrowly adnate; and the short gills are of diverse lengths.
stem The stem has not been described.
odor/taste The odor and taste have not been described.
spores The spores are incorrectly described as globose in the original description ("5–5.5 µm diam."); however, drawings of the spores show at least one that is subglobose to broadly ellipsoid.  They are faintly stippled and inamyloid.  Clamps are probably present, but no one has recorded them.
discussion This species was originally described from Grenada.

Existing descriptions of microscopic characters cast doubt on whether L. broadwayi really belongs in the genus Limacella. Check the discussion field on the technical tab.—R. E. Tulloss
