207 – 229 mm wide, off-white to pale cream, yellow-tan with age, subglobose then hemispheric, becoming convex, dull and tacky becoming more viscid with age: context white, becoming pale yellow in disc, sometimes with watery line above gills, 17 - 26 mm thick, thinning evenly to margin; margin non-striate, appendiculate with 1± mm band of thin, irregularly serrate, floccose-felted, friable material; universal veil as large smooth warts or small patches (with sloping facets not conspicuously striate as in A. ravenelii), white with buff center, felted to subfelted, detersile, probably discoloring to brown when bruised. |

On pileus, upper part of wart: generally with tissue extensively collapsed; filamentous, undifferentiated hyphae ?? μm, branching, plentiful; inflated cells common to plentiful, subglobose (e.g., 33 × 32 μm) to ellipsoid (e.g., 38 × 28 μm) to clavate; vascular hyphae 2.5 - 3.0 μm wide, sordid pale yellow. On pileus, base of wart: not appearing strongly fibrillose. From wart on stipe base: filamentous undifferentiated hyphae 1.1-8.0 μm wide, branching, common, fasciculate, with thin to slightly thickened walls; inflated cells faintly yellowish, with walls 0.5 - 1.0 μm thick, globose (e.g., 53 × 53 μm) to subglobose (e.g., 60 × 57 μm) to subellipsoid (e.g., 38 - 51 × 32-43 μm) to clavate; vascular hyphae ?? μm wide, ??; clamps large and common. |

In the field, the spores in Melzer's reagent were considered "weakly amyloid"; but re-examination in the lab does not support this observation—they are inamyloid. The fact that yellow pigment was developing below the pileipellis in the disc as the specimens matured and that cells within the universal veil appeared yellow when fresh, combined with the distribution of the limbus internus on the robust basidiomes suggest that the collection at the very least belongs in stirps Muscaria if it is not assignable to A. muscaria subsp. flavivolvata as a pallid color variant.
