    cap The cap is yellow-olive-brown, virgate outside of the dark brown to Burnt Umber disc region, with the latter tint not spreading more than about one-third of the distance from the umbo to the cap margin.  The striations of the cap margin occupy 20-40% of the cap's radius.
    stem The pallid stem is decorated with red-brown fibrils for the majority of its length in a "flame" or "snakeskin" pattern; these fibers become yellower when bruised.  The volva at the stem base is not fragile, although it does turn gray on its inner surface.  The volva's internal limb (when visible) is very thin, white, and membranous.
    discussion This entity is known from Prov. Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and fron the states of Maine and New Hampshire in the U.S.A.  It has been collected in moss of Empetrum heath with (1) Dwarf Birch (Betula) with or without Dwarf Willow (Salix), (2) Balsam Fir (Abies balsamea), or (3) Spruce (Picea).-—R.
