cap The cap of Amanita sp-N37 is 26.5 mm wide, dull brown, unchanging when cut or bruised, and convex.  Its flesh is white.  The decurved margin is striate for about 40% of the cap radius.  The volva is present on the cap as small, membranous patches that are whitish at first and become fulvous; they appear fibrillose-felted under a 10× lens.
gills The gills are free and close; they are somewhat orangish cream in mass and cream in side view.  The short gills are truncate, plentiful, of diverse lengths, and unevenly distributed.
stem The stem of this mushroom is 31 × 3.5 mm, white (becoming faintly brownish from handling), and smooth to minutely fibrillose above (10× lens), with coarser fibrils (10× lens) below.  The stuffed stem's flesh is slightly sordid white in its upper part and pale grayish below, unchanging when cut or bruised.  The saccate volva is white with fulvous stains, membranous, and about 10 × 5.5 mm.
odor/taste The mushroom is odorless.
spores The spores measure 9.8 - 11.2 × (8.8-) 9.2 - 10.8 µm and are globose to subglobose and inamyloid.  Clamps are probably absent at bases of basidia.
discussion The collection from which this mushroom is known to RET was made in New Haven Co., Connecticut, in loamy alluvial soil.  The collector, Dr. Timothy Baroni, informs us that he finds the species commonly in the northeastern U.S.—R. E. Tulloss
