30 - 100 mm wide, dark brown (6E6-8 to 6F8) at first,
sometimes paler toward margin, becoming yellowish
brown to brownish yellow to oxide yellow to golden
brown to honey yellow
mustard-brown (5C-E6-8),
then fading to about
6D7 then to buff (about 5A3), usually with disc
darker and palest near margin,
ovoid at first, then strongly convex to convex, finally
planar, viscid when wet; context white to
cream to very pale yellow, 2 - 10 mm thick
over stipe; margin nonstriate at first, short
striate in age, nonappendiculate; universal
veil as large or small white to pale gray
flattened patches, detersile. |

lamellulae truncate to subtruncate, common, of

white, solid at first, becoming hollow, sometimes
pale yellow near surface;
partial veil subapical to submedian,
membranous, rather thin, not large, white,
infundibuliform, may descend stipe with
age, sometimes glutinous on upper side of free
edge; universal veil circumsessile, as
an upstanding ocreate to cupulate volva, white, with
limb rather short (up to 4 mm high) thick (up to 10
mm at base) and membranous, sometimes verically
split, sometimes with "circumerential subquamulose
zones," persistent.
[Note: At least one collector reported a Costa Rican
collection with a partial veil that appeared to be
"double."—ed.] |

The specimens of Mueller 4116 are all were dried prior
to the start of sporulation. The stipe of
Mueller 4179 was decaying when it was collected
(although there are no signs of senescence in the
hymenium); hence, the spore dimensions and the values
of Q reported above may be abnormally low. |
