Spores of this species measure (8.4-) 9.2 - 11.5 (-12.8) × (5.9-) 6.2 - 7.2 (-7.3) μm, are ellipsoid to elongate, and inamyloid. Clamps are very likely to be present on bases of basidia.

etymology
In honor of the extraordinary collector, Connie
Borodenko.
At NEMF, NAMA, COMA, and other forays she has an
extraordinary eye for novel and rare species of
Amanita. She has contributed many fine
specimens to the Roosevelt herbarium.
She was an
early collector of Amanita penetratrix and made
the first (life size) drawings of the species.
Her care in extracting the entire stem and volva of her
specimen (of which the stipe extended 20 cm in to the
ground) was remarkable—especially since the
species
was unknown and, consequently, she had no idea of the
task ahead when she began to dig.

One of the means of distinguishing this entity from the Amanita jacksonii-like taxa of the eastern U.S.A. is the lack of an umbo on the pileus. It also appears that the cap color is more strongly orange than in A. banningiana, which, however, has spore size and shape similar to those of the present species.
Also instructive is the comparison of sporographs is provided below.
Some preliminary DNA work indicated that this
species was distinct from A. banningiana;
however, the results were apparently not retained by
the lab doing the work. Fresh material of
this taxon is greatly desired by the editors and
their colleagues.
The present species was formerly known as Amanita
sp-N12 in these pages.
